This series of Cosmic Dust meetings aims at finding a consensus among experts on the formation and evolution of cosmic dust: where it comes from and where it goes. The meeting is organized by dust freaks who are very enthusiastic not only to make the goal achievable but also to establish a dust community across every scientifically relevant discipline for the development of cosmic dust research. For this reason, the primary objective of the meeting is to bring together professionals who deal with cosmic dust as well as provide an opportunity for participants to develop interpersonal relationships and scientific interactions among themselves.

SCOPE:
All kinds of cosmic dust such as intergalactic dust, interstellar dust, protoplanetary and debris disk dust, cometary dust, interplanetary and circumplanetary dust, stellar nebular condensates, presolar grains, micrometeorites, meteoroids, meteors, regolith particles, planetary and satellite aerosols are the subject of discussion. The meeting is open for any aspects of dust research by means of different methods of studies (in-situ and laboratory measurements, astronomical observations, laboratory and numerical simulations, theoretical modeling, data analyses, etc.).

Also welcome are presentations on dust-related topics, for example:

-the formation of molecules and their reactions on and their desorption from the surface of a solid substance
-light scattering by non-spherical particles and particulate surfaces
-space missions and instrumentation for measurements of particulates

The total number of participants is limited to 50, inclusive of invited speakers and members of the meeting organizing committees.

ADMISSIONS APPLICATION:
Only preregistered participants are welcome at the Cosmic Dust meeting. To attend the meeting, please complete admissions application at the CPS website online. The deadline for the application is May 10, 2025, 11:59 p.m. Japan Standard Time (UTC+09:00) and late applications will not be accepted. On account of the limitation on the number of participants, the online application does not guarantee admission to the meeting. Participants will be determined at the discretion of the SOC and all applicants will be notified of the admissions decision by May 31, 2025. Priority will be given to those who are enthusiastic to meet in person and retain lively discussion throughout the meeting. For further details, please visit the Cosmic Dust website:

REGISTRATION FEE:
A registration fee of 12,000 JPY (ca US$80 or 75 Euro) will be charged to those whose admittances are guaranteed, even though the payment is not requested at the time of admissions application and abstract submission. The registration fee should be paid by credit card (or PayPal, depending on the country of residence). Approved registrants will be informed of the payment method and due, but if no payment by the due date, the approval for participation will be withdrawn by the SOC. The payment of the registration fee permits free admission to all scientific sessions, daily coffee breaks, a banquet, and an excursion. Accordingly, no matter what circumstances are specified, the registration fee will not be waived.

NOTES ON THE VENUE
There is a saying ``Splurge on fashion in Kyoto, gorge on food in Osaka''. As a result, Osaka is known as the kitchen of Japan and Osakans have an obsession with food, in other words, ''kuidaore''. In addition, Osaka is the home of comedy. So Kansai-ben, a prestige language spoken in the Kansai region, Osaka in particular, is commonly used in Manzai, a traditional style of comedy in Japan. Osaka is also the center of Kamigata Rakugo, a lively form of comic (not cosmic though) storytelling. 21th International Conference on Electromagnetic and Light Scattering (ELS XXI)

ELS XXI will be held in June 23-27, 2025, in Milazzo, a town in Sicily.

The Electromagnetic and Light Scattering (ELS) XXI meeting will focus on theoretical, computational, and experimental advances in electromagnetic and light scattering by particles with arbitrary sizes, shapes, and optical properties.

Contributions will cover a broad range of topics from cosmic dust, atmospheric aerosols, remote sensing observations, particle detection and characterization, to optical trapping and nano-optics.

The specific topics that will be covered include (but are not limited to) the following:

New theoretical developments, numerical simulations, and laboratory measurements of light scattering by nonspherical and morphologically complex particles and particle groups

Detection and characterization of atmospheric particulates using laboratory, in situ, and remote sensing techniques

Scattering of light by terrestrial aerosols and clouds, oceanic particulates, solar system objects, exoplanets, stellar disks, and various

astrophysical objects

Applications of light scattering methods in biology and biomedicine

Near-field and coherent effects in light scattering, optical trapping, and manipulation

Light scattering methods to control material properties and technological applications

During the Conference two prestigious young-scientist awards will be presented by Elsevier together with the Journal of Quantitative Spectroscopy and Radiative Transfer (JQSRT): the 2024 Richard M. Goody Award for outstanding early-career scientists in the field of atmospheric radiation, remote sensing, and climate science, and the 2024 Peter C. Waterman Award for outstanding early-career scientists who work on the theory and applications of electromagnetic scattering.

The conference is jointly organized by the Dipartimento di Scienze Matematiche e Informatiche, Scienze Fisiche e Scienze della Terra (MIFT) of the University of Messina and by the Istituto per i Processi Chimico-Fisici (IPCF) del Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche (CNR).
